Film Festival March 2014

 On Friday 14th and Saturday 15th March Shipham Community Cinema holds its first Film Festival to celebrate 5 years of showing great films for the community. We kick off with our old favourite - the Film Feast on Friday night. On Saturday we have a choice of events held in two rooms of our fabulous Village Hall, including workshops, short films and full length features including World Cinema alongside blockbusters and family favourites. You can book a Fish and Chip supper to enjoy before our evening session. Refreshments will be available throughout the day provided by Lenny's, The Scouts and other local charities with an evening bar supplied by the Wine Tasting Company and Butcombe Beer.

Friday Night is the Film Feast - a delicious 2 course meal followed by the film "Sunshine on Leith'    NOW SOLD OUT SORRY - CONTACT US IF YOU WANT TO BE ON THE WAIT LIST

After a delicious 2 course meal we will show "Sunshine on Leith" - a bright, cheery, big hearted smile of a movie.  It is based on the sensational stage hit of the same name, featuring music by the Proclaimers.  The film follows the story of David and Ally, who have to relearn how to live life in Edinburgh after coming home from serving in Afghanistan.  Described as sweet, guileless and with a terrifically uplifting ending, it will have you singing along in the aisles.   Prices are £10 for members and £12.50 for guests.  _____________________________________________________________________________________________________

Saturday afternoon Session 2.00 to 5.30

Our Saturday afternoon sessions are made up of two parts - firstly a choice of either:

A  SFX Make-up  Workshop on Casualty Simulation - Come along  and learn how to create film make up effects such as cuts, bruises, broken noses, black eyes and bullet wounds in a hands on environment.  Great skills to take home and fool family and friends

OR

REEL Somerset - a programme of short films introduced by the Engine Room from Bridgwater ending with 2 short films starting at 2.45pm:

'Full Time' and the Oscar nominated 'The Voorman Problem'.

PLUS your choice of one of two feature films:

Captain Phillips (12a) - In April 2009, the Maersk Alabama was boarded by four Somali pirates and it's captain was taken hostage. The crisis played out over 5 days and this film recreates those events. Both director Paul Greengrass and star Tom Hanks are on award winning form in a riveting, emotionally complex and hugely intelligent dramatisation of a real life ordeal - Empire Films

Dans La Maison (15) - France. Another great film by Francois Ozon weaving a spell binding tale mixing reality and imagination to great effect. For his literature assignment, lycee student writes long fantastical accounts of his weekends in the company of his middle class friend's family. Gradually his teacher becomes mesmerised by his fictions and a strange bond develops...

We conclude with our Saturday evening film Le Weekend. (15)  Nick and Meg, a Birmingham couple, decide to return to Paris to celebrate their forthcoming wedding anniversary, scene of their honeymoon 30 years earlier. But the years have taken their toll on the hotel - as well as their relationship. An insightful look at long term committment.
